Modifications

When circumstances change for families, their divorce or custody and support orders may need to be modified.

Missouri Legal Modifications of Family Court Orders

A child support order may need to be modified when:

  • There is a substantial increase or decrease in a parent’s income
  • Either parent or spouse becomes disabled
  • Living expenses for a child or the family change substantially due to relocation or another reason.

Child support modifications are commonly requested when the paying parent loses their job. A family law attorney may advise you to request a temporary modification until you are able to find employment or hold off on requesting a modification until you are employed again at a lower income.

A child custody order may need to be modified when:
Either parent has physically relocated
One parent has refused to adhere to the terms of the current agreement
Either parents’ personal circumstances have changed
The child is in danger while in one parent’s custody
